About Us
HaloYard exists to furnish rooms that get better with age. We look for pieces made from materials that respond to being lived with, oak that darkens, linen that softens, clay and stone that take a patina, and we favour the ones that leave the marks of making visible rather than sanding them away.
A room should feel like somewhere people have actually been, not like a showroom that was photographed once and never touched again. The name comes from two things we kept returning to: the halo of warm light a good lamp throws after sunset, and the yard, the ordinary domestic space where most real life happens.
What we actually doWe choose, we do not manufacture
We are a small United Kingdom company and we are straightforward about what that means. HaloYard does not own a factory or a workshop. We do not design the pieces we sell and we do not make them. What we do is choose them, check them, describe them accurately and stand behind them.
That is a real job and it is the whole job. Most of what is sold in this category is badly photographed, loosely described and listed with dimensions that turn out to be wrong. We go through it, keep the small number of pieces that hold up, confirm what they are actually made of and what they actually measure, and write that down properly. Then we handle the order, the delivery, and the return if it comes to that.

- It is measured against the briefMaterial, finish, proportion and price are judged against the same written standard every time. Most candidates fail it, which is the entire point of having one.
- Materials are named as they actually areAn engineered board with a wood-grain finish is described as an engineered board, not implied to be timber. A finish that is plated is not called solid. This loses us sales occasionally and we would rather lose them than have you open the box and feel misled.
- How long it takes depends on where it is heldA small number of larger pieces sit in a United Kingdom warehouse and reach you in 2 to 6 working days. The rest are sent to order and take around three to four weeks. Every product page states which applies before you buy. Full detail is in our Shipping Policy.
- If it is wrong in the room, it comes backThirty days from delivery to decide, no restocking fee, and no argument about it. Damaged or incorrect items are returned at our cost. This sits on top of your statutory rights, it does not replace them.
We are a United Kingdom business and deliver to United Kingdom addresses. For hotels, studios and interior designers, our trade programme is open, at 10 percent on every order and 20 percent on projects above £20,000.

Japan
Wabi sabi. Imperfection is left in, because it is the evidence of a hand. A glaze that pools, a grain that wanders.
Scandinavia
Restraint and daylight. If a detail is not doing work, it comes off. Pale grounds, honest joints, nothing decorative for its own sake.
Germany
Proportion resolved before anything is built. Reach, height and footprint that work in a real room rather than a photograph.
How a piece gets here
The specification is checked, not copied
Dimensions, materials, finishes and load ratings are read back against the manufacturer's own specification and corrected wherever a listing is vague or simply wrong. If we cannot confirm a claim, it does not appear on the page.
That is why every listing carries a scale drawing rather than a paragraph of adjectives, and why we work the same way in reverse: measure the room, set the piece out on the plan, and only then choose it.

The room is measured first
This is how a room gets planned before anything is bought: the walls dimensioned, the openings marked, and every piece set out to its real footprint with the clearances around it drawn in.
Every figure in the list below appears on the drawing. That is the point of publishing it.
- 01 4.80 × 3.90 m The room itself, dimensioned on all four sides before a single piece is chosen.
- 02 2.10 m The sofa, set out to length rather than to the eye, with 0.90 m left clear at the end of it.
- 03 1.10 × 0.60 m The low table, centred on a 3.00 m rug so the rug frames the seating instead of floating under it.
- 04 0.70 m Kept clear behind the door swing. A piece that blocks a door is a piece that goes back.

The standard
Drawn before it is judged
Proportion, radius and reach are settled on paper before a material is chosen, the way a car body is resolved before it is ever pressed. That is the German half of the brief.
Then the material is allowed the last word: wood that moves, linen that creases, glaze that pools at the foot. That is the Japanese half. A piece has to survive both to enter the collection, and most candidates do not.
The materials
Chosen for year five
Oak and solid hardwood darken with light and handling. Linen and bouclé crease, and are supposed to. Travertine keeps its open pores and its own veining, so no two cuts match. Ceramic is hand glazed, so colour shifts a little between batches.
Where a piece uses an engineered material because that is the right choice at the price, the product page says so plainly and explains why.
