A solid cube of travertine set down on one corner, with a frosted opal glass globe resting in the face that ends up pointing at the ceiling. It is one idea carried out properly: the weight of the stone holds the tilt, and nothing else is needed to keep it there.
Lit, the globe throws a soft even light with no glare, low enough to read by on a bedside table without lighting the whole room. Unlit, the travertine does the work. The stone is left unpolished, so its open pores and mineral flecks are visible from across the room and no two cubes are marked the same way.
At 20 cm tall it sits comfortably on a bedside table, a console or a deep shelf, and the braided cord is long enough to reach a socket behind furniture.
