A clock that lights the wall it hangs on
The Orvieto is a single disc of travertine, 23 cm across, with two slim wooden hands and no numerals at all. Behind it sits an LED that throws a soft halo onto the plaster, so after dark the stone reads as a lit shape rather than a fitting with a bulb in it.
The face is the material. Travertine is full of open pores and fine horizontal grain, and the light passing around the edge picks all of it out. Numerals would fight that, so there are none. You read the time from the hands and the position, the way you would from a watch with a plain dial.
It works where a clock and a small light would otherwise compete for the same wall: above a console in a hallway, beside a doorway, over a sideboard in a dining room. Three to five square metres of soft light, which is enough to walk by and not enough to keep anyone awake.

The same way you read a watch with a plain dial, from the angle of the hands. The hour hand is short and wide, the minute hand long and slim, and both are wood against pale stone so they stay legible across a room. If you want numerals on a wall clock, this is not the one.
No. The backlight is switched on and off by touch on the fitting itself, so the clock can sit unlit through the day and be lit in the evening. It is not dimmable. Choose warm white on its own, or the three colour version if you want to change the temperature by room.
The disc is 23 cm across, roughly the width of a dinner plate. It mounts flat to the wall and arrives assembled, with nothing to build. It runs on UK mains and is rated 90 to 260 V, so we recommend a qualified electrician for the connection.
